In June 1970, Ada Louise Huxtable claimed it "might be just one of the most important city rooms since the Renaissance", contrasting it to the Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain 2 An article for The New York Times by Ivan Doig went over effective ways by which Portland's "livability" didn't add to its "visitability", directing out that the Forecourt Water fountain and lunch was "one even more minute of Portland's revealing some attractiveness and afterwards returning to its fearless program of life". 47 The Oregonian wrote that Halprin's playgrounds "altered the way American landscape designers considered city playgrounds, and it stimulated a Portland tradition of great city plazas and playgrounds". 49.
